Five Lines

February 25, 2012 § Leave a comment

Today I’ve been walking around with these five lines in my head and heart. Something like a mantra for my wish to understand “what is gone and what is on the way”.

Five Lines
by Nazim Hikmet

To overcome lies in the heart, in the streets, in the books
from the lullabies of the mothers
to the news report that the speaker reads,
understanding, my love, what a great joy it is,
to understand what is gone and what is on the way.

(Translation by Randy Blasing and Mutlu Konuk)
